A Night of Terror

Wade Murray's hair stood on end, and he felt a tingling sensation on his scalp. His heart was racing at almost 180 beats per minute.

"Who...who's there?" Wade Murray yelled to give himself courage, and he sprang up like a carp that had just been pulled out of the water. He turned on the light with a loud snap.

The room was brightly lit, and the curtains were rustling in the breeze, making a soft rustling sound. The room was quiet, and he looked around, but there was nothing there...

Wade Murray's heart was pounding, and he almost cried. The light gave him the courage he needed, and he quickly ran out to look around.

The corridor was lit by a night light that had only a few watts of brightness, making the corridor dim and hazy. The end of the corridor was a turn, and he couldn't see what was around the corner, but there was a shadow on the ground that looked like a person's shadow...

Wade Murray's hair stood on end, and he immediately closed the door.

Not only did he close it, but he also locked it! This gave him a little sense of security, and he breathed a sigh of relief.

"Fear is scary...don't scare yourself...sob, sob." Wade Murray was almost crying, and he couldn't help but grip the yellow talisman hanging from his chest.

It was only because of the nightmare he had just had that he was on edge. Perhaps, he had forgotten to close the door before going to bed tonight?... Wade Murray wasn't too sure anymore.

He had a habit of closing the door before going to bed, so could he really have forgotten tonight?

Wade Murray lay in bed, afraid to turn off the light, tossing and turning unable to sleep. He thought about his nightmare earlier, someone had opened his room door and floated in, standing at the foot of his bed... It was just getting scarier the more he thought about it.

Wade Murray hesitated. Should he go and sleep with Susie Murray? He could sleep on the floor or something. Alternatively, he could go and sleep in his brother's room. It wouldn't be too embarrassing to share a room with him, would it?

But if he wanted to leave, he would have to pass by that corner of the hallway. What if that 'person' was hiding there? He would have to confront them directly.

Wade Murray couldn't help shivering at the thought and quickly came up with another idea, why not go and find his dad? His room was just one study away from his dad's room, and he wouldn't have to go past the staircase corner.

Trembling, Wade Murray got up and stepped onto the floor, but suddenly saw a shadow projected from under the bed. He quickly retreated his foot.

Wade Murray scolded himself for being afraid of everything and rummaged through his things to find his phone, intending to call his dad. Just then, there was a slight noise from the wardrobe.

The door of the wardrobe opened a crack. Wade Murray's spine stiffened and he slowly turned his head. The wardrobe door had only opened about two inches, as if it was just an old part that couldn't bear the weight of the door and had opened on its own.

Wade Murray felt as if something was hidden inside and his hair stood on end. If this nightmare was real, could that person still be hiding in the wardrobe?!

Wade Murray held his breath, and the room was so quiet that he had an illusion that he could hear someone breathing. "Who...who's there?" Wade Murray bravely shouted in fear.

He couldn't stay and check if there was someone under the bed, by the window, or in the bathroom. He took a leap and ran out of the room, flustered and opened the door, but he had accidentally locked it from the inside and couldn't open it.

He didn't dare to look back. He had a feeling that whatever was inside the wardrobe was now standing behind him...

Finally, the door opened and Wade Murray ran out crying loudly, "Dad! Daddy! Dad!" He banged on the door, too afraid to look back.

It was around two or three in the morning when Martin Murray had just finished work and lay down, frowning as he endured a severe headache. Suddenly, he heard a banging on the door, got up to open it, and before he could figure out what was happening, a small figure rushed into his arms. The force was so strong that he involuntarily took two steps back, and only then did he see that it was Wade Murray, crying with tears all over his face.

Martin Murray was puzzled and asked, "What's going on?" He bent down, easily lifted Wade Murray up, and patted his back with his big and broad palm.

Wade Murray couldn't remember how long it had been since his father had held him like this. He only remembered that after his aunt disappeared, the atmosphere at home was terrifyingly depressing. His father was too busy to be seen, his grandmother was quickly taken to a nursing home, and his uncles were exhausted from searching for his aunt.

There were only Ada, the maids, Colt Robson, and his grandfather at home. His grandfather's face was stern and scary from a distance. Colt Robson and Ada were not his relatives, and his second aunt only cared about Lucy Murray.

Sometimes, Wade Murray was also envious of Lucy Murray, even though she cried and made a fuss all the time, which was annoying. But at least someone would indulge her, and then she could cry and make a fuss.

"Dad..." Wade Murray cried harder and harder as he thought about all the mess in his head. Fear and grievance seemed to be intertwined, and tears and snot flowed down together.

Martin Murray, "..."

Wade Murray leaned on Martin Murray's shoulder and wiped away his tears and snot. As his character was, he quickly felt that he was crying too embarrassingly and forced himself to calm down.

Martin Murray casually closed the door and took Wade Murray into the room to sit on the sofa. Then he poured him a glass of water and handed him a clean towel moistened with warm water.

"Are you calm now?" he asked.

Wade Murray nodded hesitantly, "Mm-hmm."

Martin Murray sat across from him, slightly bent over with his elbows resting on his knees.

"Tell me, what's going on?"

Wade Murray suddenly found it hard to speak. Should he say he had a nightmare, or that there was a ghost in the room?

No matter which one, just the thought of it made him feel ridiculous, let alone saying it out loud.

Seeing Martin Murray still looking at him, Wade Murray had no choice but to stutter, "I, I think there might be a ghost in my room..."

Just when Wade Murray was feeling down and thought his dad would say it was ridiculous, he saw his dad stand up and say, "Let's go."

Wade Murray quickly stood up, "Where to?"

Martin Murray replied, "To your room to take a look."

Wade Murray, "..."

Soon, the father and son returned to Wade Murray's room, with Wade Murray clutching Martin Murray's clothes tightly.

Martin Murray turned on all the lights in the room, squinted and looked around. Then his gaze fell on the wardrobe door that Wade Murray had mentioned.

Opening the wardrobe door, neatly hung inside were small clothes - two sets of summer school uniforms, two sets of spring and autumn school uniforms, and a few T-shirts.

Wade Murray's eyes widened as he stuttered, "I, I left the wardrobe door only slightly open when I left..."

Yes, he definitely didn't remember it wrong this time!

There was a light sound outside the door, as if footsteps.

Martin Murray quickly walked a few steps and opened the door with a bang.
