Evelyn Ford's eyes flew open, her heart pounding in her chest. She was lying in a pool of her own blood, the taste of copper filling her mouth. Her body was a mass of pain, and she could feel the life draining out of her. But she refused to give up. She had to survive. She had to make Jonathan pay for what he had done to her.
With a Herculean effort, Evelyn forced herself to her feet. She looked around the room, her vision blurry. She saw Jonathan standing in the corner, a smug look on his face. He was holding a gun in his hand, and he was pointing it at her.
'You thought you could escape me, Evelyn?' he said, his voice cold and cruel. 'You thought you could take my fortune and my power away from me? Well, you were wrong. You're nothing but a weak, pathetic woman. And now you're going to die.'
Evelyn's eyes narrowed. She wasn't going to let Jonathan win. She wasn't going to let him kill her. She took a step towards him, her body shaking with anger and determination.
'You're the one who's going to die, Jonathan,' she said, her voice low and dangerous. 'I'm going to make sure of it.'
Jonathan laughed. 'You're delusional, Evelyn. You're nothing but a corpse. And soon, you'll be nothing but a memory.'
Evelyn ignored him. She took another step towards him, her eyes fixed on his gun. She knew she had to disarm him before he could shoot her again. She lunged at him, her hand reaching for the gun.
But Jonathan was too fast for her. He stepped aside, and she stumbled past him. She fell to the ground, her body hitting the hard floor with a thud. She looked up, and she saw Jonathan pointing the gun at her again.
'Goodbye, Evelyn,' he said, and he pulled the trigger.
Evelyn closed her eyes, waiting for the inevitable. But instead of a bullet, she heard a strange sound. She opened her eyes, and she saw a figure standing in front of her. It was a man, dressed in black. He had a gun in his hand, and he was pointing it at Jonathan.
'Who are you?' Jonathan asked, his voice trembling with fear.
The man didn't answer. He just fired his gun, and Jonathan fell to the ground, a bullet in his chest. Evelyn stared at the man in disbelief. She didn't know who he was or why he had saved her life.
The man walked over to her and knelt down beside her. He looked into her eyes, and she saw a kindness and a compassion that she had never seen before.
'Are you okay?' he asked.
Evelyn nodded. 'Yes,' she said, her voice barely above a whisper. 'Thank you.'
The man smiled. 'You're welcome,' he said. 'My name is Alexander Kane. And I'm here to help you.'
Evelyn's eyes widened. She had heard of Alexander Kane. He was the CEO of the Kane Corporation, one of the most powerful companies in the world. He was also a ruthless businessman, a man who would stop at nothing to get what he wanted.
'Why are you helping me?' she asked.
Alexander's eyes darkened. 'Because Jonathan is my enemy,' he said. 'He's been trying to destroy my company for years. And now that he's betrayed you, I see an opportunity to take him down.'
Evelyn stared at him. She didn't know if she could trust him. But she had no other choice. She was alone, and she needed someone to help her.
'Okay,' she said. 'What do you want me to do?'
Alexander stood up. 'First, we need to get you out of here,' he said. 'Jonathan's men will be looking for you. And we don't want them to find you.'
He helped Evelyn to her feet, and he led her out of the room. They walked down a long hallway, and then they stepped into an elevator. The elevator doors closed, and they started to descend.
Evelyn looked at Alexander. She could feel his strength and his power. She could also feel his determination. She knew that he was going to do everything in his power to help her.
'What's going to happen now?' she asked.
Alexander looked at her. 'Now, we're going to start planning our revenge,' he said.
